The day before yesterday my son cut off part of his big toe with the riding lawn mower .?
The bone from the first joint up was crushed and the tissue was like hamburger meat . The 2nd toe is broken , possibly the 3rd as well . The paramedics said he had almost bled out before they got there .He had put his foot in the ice bin and that had probably saved his life . Now the Dr at the ER said his biggest concern is going to be not getting a bone infection , which could cause further amputation and she was unable to get all the dirt and grass that was embedded . He has an appt with a bone specialist on Monday .The ER sent him home with Lortab 7.5 which is not sufficient to say the least .
I am wondering how long will he have this severe pain and other then the obvious how can I help him prevent a bone infection . Would things like a humidifier and air purifier help?
I lost the tip of one of my fingers and they had to cut the bone back. It was just a tiny bit to prevent infection and to have enough skin to close it up. Maybe not the answer you were looking for, but i hope it may have helped.
They sent me home with a type of gauze that was medicated and prevented sticking. I think it was called xylafoam.
