Why does my room stink?
My room is in our basement (it’s finished and doesn’t look like a basement) There is only one small window. My room always smells weird, I had mold for a while but got rid of it, i thought after that the smell would go away…It didnt, i thought maybe it was my dogs, so i dont let them down any more, it STILL stinks. I have tried glade air fresheners (that you plug in) I have tries febreze, renewzit and other sprays and stuff. I have a candle melter, but my room still smells bad i have washed my carpet and vacuum all the time.
What should i do to get rid of the smell, when i dont even know what the cause is??
But it has to be cheap.
P.s. I also have an air purifier.
The smell isn’t like poop or anything, im not sure what it smells like, i leave my winow open most of the time unless i get cold or it’s raining, and my door isn’t a full door, it is cut in half. (my dads idea)
you had mold because there was source of water;
so unless you addressed water source that started mold from start it will not be gotten rid of;
and only way to completely get rid of mold is clorox; bleach; nothing else will do; so pour 100% clorox with rag or some thing; or soak rag with clorox and put it on the spot and leave it there for least 10min; and let it soak in; to kill it;
then clean up;
those two should address the problem;
and get a dehumidifier; too much moisture in the basement

Put a fan in the window and air it out. It might be that the carpet has something under it that is causing the smell, usually because it got wet at some point and was never dried out properly.

my room smelled last week like poo or something, it was sick. so i cleaned it… like changed the sheets and dusted and everything.
and now its not half as bad.
maybe you should throw the trash out, cause there might be like some old banana peel or something in there

it’s probably stale air you’re smelling. there’s not enough circulation in the room. you need to get an ozone air purifier. you’ll have to leave your room for a day or so but they work great. if your window opens, keep it open as much as possible. if not keep the door open and place a fan in the doorway pointing away from your room. this should help suck the stale air out of them room and hopefully your a/c will pump new air in.

What kind of smell is it? I mean, is there anything you could compare it to? Do you leave the door closed all day & then it stinks when you come home? It could probably be just stale air, especially since there’s just one small window and I assume you don’t leave it open all the time. Even if you did, it wouldn’t help much if it’s a typical basement window. Try leaving the door open the next time you’re gone for the day (if you don’t already) & see if that helps.

Do you have a bathroom by it? I had a bedroom and bathroom together and I had this horrible smell all year and I tried everything like you did. It turns out I had dumped curdled milk down the drain in my sink and it didn’t go all the way down. I had to pour bleach and draino and all that stuff. Maybe that would help. Sorry if it doesn’t!

I think it may be your sump pump you know when you are sitting on the toilet and you just did number 2 and your flush the toilet and all the stuff that is on the toilet goes to to your sump pump and when the water reaches a certain height the sump pump drains everything out of your house including all that dirty water,I would suggest buying one of those tall skinny bottles of bleach and pouring it in the toilet and flush it down that way the bleach can get rid of foul smells and clean the sump pump,do you have mold growing in your walls or have you checked to see if the dogs didn’t leave any droppings in your room,
or try washing all the clothes in your room,including old shoes,socks,underwear.

Seems like you have tried almost everything. If it smells like mildew try Damp-All is works wonders. You can purchase it at any grocery store.

if you had mold in your room unless you ripped out all the areas that was moldy it is still there. mold grows up inside walls where you can’t see it but can smell it esp when it is wet outside or extremely humid inside. putting a fan in your window blowing outward might help it a little bit but you need to get it checked out as most mold is hazardous to your health.
